Frequently Asked Questions

  • Which areas do you cover?

Currently we operate in the following areas. Berkshire, South & Central Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Middlesex, North & West London, North & West Surrey and North-East Hampshire. If you're unsure whether we cover your area, give us a call on 01753 654 879.

  • What happens during a Home Survey?

A home survey allows us to assess your staircase and recommend the most suitable stairlift for your home.

    During the visit we will:

    • Measure the staircase

    • Discuss the available options

    • Provide clear pricing

    • Answer any questions you may have

There is no obligation to proceed, and the visit usually takes around 30–60 minutes.

  • How long does it take to get a lift installed?

It varies depending on the type of stairlift you require. Basic straight stairlifts are normally installed within 2 to 4 days from your initial call. A rented curved lift order can normally be fitted within 3-5 days of the survey.

  • Will a stairlift fit my stairs?

The first stage in every job is for us to carry out a detailed survey of your staircase - this will determine whether or not a stairlift will fit. Once we have seen your staircase we will be able to advise you on the options available.

  • What happens on the day of installation?

Our engineers aim to make the installation process as straightforward and stress-free as possible.

In most cases the installation takes only a few hours. The stairlift rail is fitted directly to the staircase rather than the wall, meaning there is usually minimal disruption to your home.

Once the stairlift has been installed, our engineer will:

    • Demonstrate how the stairlift works

    • Show you the safety features and controls

    • Answer any questions you may have

We will also ensure you feel completely comfortable using the stairlift before we leave.

  • Are my walls strong enough for a stairlift?

A common misconception is that stairlifts are fixed to the wall - this is not the case. All stairlifts are screwed directly to the staircase through the carpet. We use heavy duty wood screws to do this and not the large coach bolts used by some other companies, minimising the damage to the carpet.

  • Is there a maximum weight limit the stairlift can carry?

Yes, however the maximum weight depends on the type of lift. Most stairlifts are rated to carry up to 21 stone/130Kg, with some rated to carry up to 24.5 stone/155Kg

  • Do stairlifts breakdown?

Like all things mechanical they can go wrong and that is why you need a first class back up service. We offer a FREE 24 hour emergency phone number to all our customers - if you experience a problem just call us and one of our engineers will assist you.

  • I already have a stairlift, will you maintain it for me?

Providing it's a stairlift model that we support, then we do offer maintenance and breakdown service for customers own equipment. Please call us for details.

  • Do you buy unwanted stairlifts?

Yes, we offer cash for some makes of unwanted stairlifts - please contact us for further information.

  • How are stairlifts powered and what happens in a power cut?

Our stairlifts operate on batteries that are charged from the household mains via a plug-in transformer. All we need is a standard 3 pin socket, avoiding the need for expensive dedicated wiring. In the event of a power cut the stairlift will continue to operate on stored battery power.

  • Are stairlifts expensive to run?

Stairlifts use very little electricity, typically 2-3p per run which is less than boiling a kettle.
